The article elaborates on the extensive social commitments of the painter Heinrich Wettach (1858–1929), who lived and worked in Ljubljana from 1885 until the end of World War I, to position him firmly within the cultural context of the Carniolan capital at the turn of the century. It explores his connections with societies and organisations he was dedicated to and defines the nature of his collaboration with them. The last part of the article explores the involuntary move of the painter and his family from Ljubljana and his final years in Carinthia.
