The article deals with the diplomatic activities of the Celje lawyer, writer, and politician Anton Novačan (1887–1951). Based on archival materials and memorial sources, Novačan’s consular activities in various places are presented, especially in the Romanian Danubian port city of Brăila, Cairo, and Klagenfurt, where the expansion of the Nazi power can be closely observed. Novačan’s outlook on Yugoslav politics during World War II, when he found refuge in the Middle East, is also evaluated.
