Abstract

In the paper, the author describes and analyses the circumstances surrounding the introduction of the January 6th Dictatorship by King Alexander in 1929, its nature, as well as the reactions it provoked both at home and abroad. He concludes that the dictatorship, although being an expression of a genuine political need in the country, was essentially an autocratic rule which was felt in all spheres of life. In this way, the positive aspects of the January 6th regime, especially the urgent legal unification of the country, were overshadowed by sharp political repression.
