The paper describes the development of collective agreements in Slovene territory since they first appeared within the framework of Austrian legislation on workers' security at the end of the 19th century. It shows their development in prewar Yugoslavia in greater detail and presents the new system of collective agreements which was introduced after the year 1990. Collective agreements have evolved within the context of European development, yet have been characterized by specific economic and social conditions in Slovene territory.
