The article deals with the beginnings of the modern political agrarian movement in Slovenia. Based on the newspaper reports and other relevant sources, the pre-history of the establishment of the Independent Agricultural Party in the newly-formed Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes is presented. A special emphasis is placed on the developments in Inner Carniola and the Goriška region, where, on the eve of World War I in what was then the Habsburg Monarchy, the first Slovenian agrarian political formations were established.
