Airfields at the Soča Front
Keywords:
Austro-Hungary, World War I, Soča Front, aviation, air force units, airfields, airfield infrastructure in the rear of the Soča FrontAbstract
On the basis of archive materials and literature the author describes a topic, which has not yet been explored so far – the airfield infrastructure in the rear of the Soča Front. The infrastructure kept expanding as the fighting went on. The article also describes the decrees setting out the construction of airfield infrastructure in the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. There was a difference between regulations and actual construction in the rear of the Front, but nevertheless certain security parameters were taken into account during the construction, as the airfields were placed into the geographic space of the Front. The locations of most airfields have already been known, but the author also presents some previously unknown locations. He describes individual airfields, for example their construction and the units operating there.
