During the interwar period, the educational institutions for children with sensory
impairment in the Yugoslav state placed significant emphasis on the regular professional
education and training of the teaching staff. Teachers broadened their knowledge by reading
foreign expert literature and visiting similar institutions abroad. Contacts with foreign countries
also included visits by foreign experts. The contribution presents these activities using
the example of the institutions in Ljubljana and Zagreb. In their efforts to eliminate societal
prejudices and integrate children with sensory impairments into society, these institutions
also focused on presenting their work to the general public.
