Fritz Valjavec and the Südost Institut in Munich

Abstract

In the first part of the paper the author presents in detail the life and professional activity of one of the founders of the Southeastern institute in Munich and one of the most important German researchers of the problems of SE Europe and thereby of both Yugoslavia and Slovenia. The second part describes the activities of this institute which through its publications as well as its scientific research has significantly contributed to our understanding of German policy toward Southeast.
