Abstract

The article deals with numerous questions surrounding the so-called Vetrinje tragedy which took place immediately after the end of the Second World War, in May and June of 1945. The tragedy happened when most of the several thousand Home Guard members, after being returned to Yugoslavia from Italy and Austria by the Allies, were executed by the Partisans. Given that this Slovenian exodus was one of the forbidden and concealed subjects under the previous regime, which left the places of execution unmarked, it is not surprising that it has received so much attention in the emigrant literature after the war.
