Ig in the period 1945–1952
Social, political and economic conditions and life in the first postwar years
Abstract
The contribution presents the development of the village of Ig between 1945 and 1952. The living conditions in the years immediately after the Second World War were modest. The predominantly rural population was, like elsewhere in Slovenia, facing difficulties caused by the shortage of supplies and the compulsory delivery of crops. The rebuilding of the village was sluggish due to poor funding. Ig’s economic structure was co-shaped by politically motivated postwar measures imposed by the new people’s government. Ig’s further development was also af fected by confiscations, the agrarian reform and nationalization, which were implemented between 1945 and 1948. The contribution reveals individual cases of expropriation and distribution of confiscated properties, the main share of which was granted to state institutions. To some extent, the confiscated properties provided the basis of the village’s new economic structure.
