Museum objects of the leather-making Herzog family and the Pachners, a family of merchants, in the collection of the Regional Museum Maribor
Abstract
The article presents the movable cultural heritage of Maribor-based leather makers from the Herzog family, which was passed down to the Pachners with the marriage of Katarina Herzog and Roman Pachner, a merchant from Varaždin. In the early twentieth century, members of the Pachner family donated a number of items from their own and the Herzogs’ property to the Museum Society of Maribor. More than one century later and due to scanty records from the early stages of museum collection activities, these objects may be identified only partially in the current collec-tion of the Regional Museum Maribor. Drawing on the data from the civil registers of Maribor’s Parish of St. John the Baptist, the contribution aims to provide at least a tentative chronology of the Herzog and Pachner families from Maribor, to which the objects under examinations once belonged.
