Ethical Guidelines

Publication ethics for editors, reviewers and authors of Kronika, Review for Slovenian Local History

Duties of the editor and editorial board:

  • The editor of the review Kronika shall be responsible for deciding which of the papers submitted should be published. He or she shall follow the guidelines of the review’s editorial policy and may consult with the editorial board or reviewers in this decision.
  • The editor shall submit each paper for evaluation to two reviewers who, as a rule, have the expertise in the theme, period or spatial framework discussed in the paper (peer review).
  • The editor and members of the editorial board may not disclose any information regarding the submitted manuscript to anyone other than the author concerned or(possible) reviewers.
  • The editor shall reserve the right to set the deadline (time limit) until which the reviewer must complete his or her evaluation. The editorial deadline may be subject to change only upon agreement between the editor and reviewer.

Duties of reviewers:

  • The reviewer shall assist the editor in making editorial decisions with his or her objective and professional evaluation and may, through editorial communication with the author, also assist the latter in improving the paper.
  • Each selected reviewer who feels unqualified to review the manuscript or knows that he or she will be unable to submit the review within the time limit set by the editor must notify the editor and excuse himself or herself from the review.
  • The review procedure shall be anonymous. Reviewers must treat all submitted manuscripts as confidential documents. They may not show them or discuss them with others, nor are they allowed to use them for their personal advantage.

Duties of authors:

  • The data presented in the paper on which the research work is based must be precise and accurate.The paper must contain sufficient detail as well as permit other authors to cite it and reviewers to verify it.
  • Authors must write their papers in compliance with the Instructions to the authors published in each issue of the review Kronika.
  • Authors must ensure that their papers are original scholarly work and the result of their research, and if they have used the work and/or words of other authors that these have been correctly cited or quoted.
  • The editorial board of the review Kronika will not accept texts that have already been published or are undergoing editorial review in another publication. Authors must ensure that they have not published the essential findings of their research in any other scholarly publication. The only exception applies to translations of papers into foreign languages.
  • Authors must always provide appropriate citations of works that have importantly influenced the production of their paper. Information obtained privately may not be used or reported without explicit written consent of the source.
  • Where there are several authors of a paper, the latter may only be published with the approval of all authors.
  • Authors of papers shall be responsible for the acquisition of permissions to publish copyrighted pictorial material.
