Official slovenica from Trst/Trieste and its wider area from the beginning of the seventeenth to the mid-nineteenth century

Abstract

The contribution provides a survey of hitherto documented official slovenica from the Trst/Trieste area by examining the depositories (archives and libraries) in Slovenia. The only known documents from the seventeenth century, apart from an oath form from Devin/Duino, produced sometime at the beginning of the century, are the Brotherhood Rules from Dolina pri Trstu/Dolina, dated to 1635. Then in 1786, after a gap of one century and a half, begins a series of norms (official proclamations) printed in Trst/Trieste. By far the highest number of official records in the Slovenian language were produced in the first half of the nineteenth century. All but the said norms printed in Trst/Trieste as well as a contract of inheritance (1845) and a record of an oral will, both composed in Trst/Trieste (1850), were produced between 1800 and 1830 in the villages of Ricmanje/San Giuseppe della Chiusa, Dolina/Dolina, and Zabrežec/Moccò. The majority of documents are last wills and appraisals, for which Ricmanje jumps out from the rest of the Slovenian area.
