Abstract

Identically as in the majority of the countries north of the Alps, Gothic tradition in architecture survived in Slovenia until the period of baroque. In the region west from Ljubljana in the highlands around Polhov Gradec, it is possible to follow the development of a smaller group of churches, which preserved late medieval characteristics as far as to the end of the 17th century. Those buildings reveal the development line from late medieval forms to the occurrence of baroque that was still strongly marked with Gothic tradition.
