Abstract

The collection of carpets at the castle of Strmol is the second largest public collection of oriental carpets on Slovene territory. Almost 60 carpets are classified by provenience (mainly Persia and Turkey but as well Turkmenistan and Caucasus), by date (19th and 20th centuries), by technique (knotted and flatwoven carpets), and by motifs. Critically dealt with are the physical condition and the setting of the carpets. Individually presented are some most characteristic carpets.
