A register of the Tolmin rebels in the dungeons of the castle in Gorizia 1713–1716

Abstract

The great Tolmin peasant rising was in the middle of June 1713 smothered, the rebels scattered. However, the military patrols inspected the villages and sought the leading rebels, arrested them and lead them to the castle in Gorizia. There they put the prisoners on a register, which is preserved in the Court Archives in Vienna. On both sides of a single sheet of paper, over a hundred names are registered. Usually but not consistently, the place of dwelling is written along the name.
