Abstract

Although Carinthia is a mountainous continental country, traffic connections run across it from antiquity on that connect the north and the south and the west with the east. Various events in nearby and distant surroundings influenced on traffic conditions and traffic frequency. Somewhat remote from major traffic directions was Mežiška dolina with its vicinity. The development of the present Slovene Carinthia began with the invigorated development of mining industry and ironworks, which was in tight connection with improvement of traffic connections. The introduction of the railway moderated to some extent the traffic difficulties of that part of Carinthia.
