Abstract

The article was inspired by the desire to arrange and take an inventory of the legacy of Vesna Lavrič, née Bernot, a socially engaged and versatile personality. Born in Ljubljana, she moved with her husband to Ribnica in 1951. There, she started teaching at the lower grammar school (later eight-year primary school) and became a veritable inhabitant of Ribnica. Her young adulthood coincided with the initial stages of the construction of a socialist society in Slovenia; she ardently engaged in numerous fields. As a vocational class teacher, she strongly influenced generations of pupils. She contributed to the establishment and development of many associations: the Red Cross, fire service, mycological, speleological, mountaineering, natural science and tourism societies, and the society of pensioners. Accounts and records on Vesna Lavrič simultaneously draw a portrait of one segment of the life in the second half of the twentieth century in Ribnica.
