The library at the Tuštanj castle

The library at the castle of Tuštanj is composed of the old castle library, the Pirnat family library, and personal library of Professor Maks Pirnat. The castle library was placed in a special bookcase in the back saloon. In contains above all old material of previous owners, mainly in German language. Noticeable among this material is Valvasor’s Topographia ducatus Carniolae modernae, 1679, and it is the oldest volume in the library. The family library consist of in economy useful literature, and of literature in Slovene language, there was also a good deal of cartographic material. The third part of the library is composed of material from the legacy of Professor Maks Pirnat, Slavist, teacher and popular-scientific writer, composed of several school yearbooks and compendiums. He marked the majority of the material in his library with signatures.
