The Tuštanj castle with its baroque chapel and park changed its image thoroughly three times in its five hundred years history. We do not know the late Gothic scheme as the then owners, the Lichtenberg family, thoroughly rebuilt the castle for the first time between the years 1667 and 1671 in a renaissance style with four tracts around the central yard. The next larger reconstruction was in the 18th century when they changed the original wooden passage in the yard into an arcade one, arched the north basement and covered the renaissance ceilings in the storey. During the last renovation that started in the 90-ies of the 20th century, most interventions were carried out on the north tract, which has with its restored paintings a representative purpose, while in the south tract the interventions were limited to the improvement of the stability of the attic. The central premises with affluent inventory in that tract remained untouched and reflect authentically the image and atmosphere of the bourgeois residence of the 19th century.
