The Pirnat family at the Tuštanj castle

Abstract

The history of the Pirnat family at the Tuštanj castle begins with the year 1854 when the castle gardener Luka Pirnat from Krtina marries Maksimilijana Scaria, the last descendant of the Scaria family. Maksimilijana who was fifteen years older than Luka, dies childless after nineteen years of marriage. The only inheritor thus becomes her husband Luka Pirnat who in 1873 marries Ana Resnik, and continues the family with his descendants up to the present day. The castle is since the year 1990 in the property of Peter and Ana Pirnat. The Pirnat family have in their 150 years history of managing the castle succeeded in preserving the castle up to the present time and by a thorough renovation bring back life into it.
