Abstract

Based on archival and newspaper sources the article describes the work of the women’s subsidiary of the Cyril and Methodius Society for Sežana and its surroundings from its founding in 1892 to the beginning of the First World War. Similarly to other subsidiaries, it organised fetes, charity and fundraising events, and held annual general meetings. It was the first women’s subsidiary to have organised and housed a great annual meeting of the entire Cyril and Methodius Society, which took place on 26 July 1894 in Sežana. The article also presents life stories of some members who played a visible part in the subsidiary’s operations.
