Life in Šoštanj – the town of lights and tall chimneys

Abstract

These are the reminiscences of the life in the town of Šoštanj, elevated by its successful leather industry into the capital of the Šalek Valley. The development of postwar economy was firmly anchored in energy industry based on energy source extraction and generation of electricity. Both economic activities had a profound impact on the town’s life as well as its status both in society and space. This record is my personal journey through the memories of events that marked the area in which I have spent my entire life.
