Recent discoveries on fortifications in the Boč area from prehistoric times to the early Modern Period

Abstract

The contribution presents the remnants of fortified posts in the area of Boč from prehistoric times, Antiquity and the Middle Ages. While some of them were already known in the past, many new data could be obtained with the lat-est field research as well as with the use of the aerial survey method of surface scanning (LIDAR). The new discoveries regarding individual forts from prehistoric times and Antiquity have revealed numerous earthen fortifications and a few castles, which are a testament to the great significance that this border area had during the Middle Ages.
