Abstract

Amalija Šimec (1893–1960) has been recognized in the history of Slovenian medicine as a trailblazer of Slovenian social medicine as well as epidemiology and bacteriology. She was the first Slovenian recipient of the Rockefeller Fellowship and did significant pioneer work during the interwar period in several fields of medicine. With her publishing and lecturing activities, she actively promoted social medicine and raised public awareness about the importance of hygiene and the foundations of healthcare.
