Abstract

The article outlines the life and work of Ignacij Hladnik (1865–1932), starting with his birth in the settlement of Križe near Tržič, youth and education in Tržič and Ljubljana, and ending with the stations of his career at Šentjakob ob Savi, Stara Loka, and in Novo Mesto. The article briefly describes the circumstances and characteristics of Hladnik’s work in the above-mentioned places, with a particular focus on the reception of his compositions, which it seeks to place within the general cultural, political, and economic structures of his time.
