Our Noblemen's Reading: Physics in Valvasor's Library
Keywords:
Valvasor, Robert Boyle, History of Physics, History of LibrariesAbstract
Valvasor’s original contributions to the development of physics and techniques are put forward in connection with his fellowship at the Royal Society of London. The special concern is put on Valvasor’s library with many Robert Boyle’s books included. At the other hand Valvasor bought almost all works of Boyle’s opponent Kircher. Valvasor’s physics interests were tightly connected with Royal Society which urgently looked for correspondent from Valvasor’s part of Europe. Valvasor also had many Carniolan predecessors. He followed the Auersperg’s library example upon building his own book collection. Slovenes later adopted Valvasor as one of their own, but did not provide the same treatment for the erudite Count Volf Engelbert Auersperg.
