The »Roman« Kingdom of the Germans
Abstract
Examined are the kingdoms of the Germanic peoples that had developed in the territory of the Roman Empire. Although their na- mes indicate the tradition of the peoples »from the outside« these kingdoms were Latin institutions of the Late Antiquity. They had accepted the highest magistrate army system of the Late Antiquity and the related positions of the emperor’s deputies. In spite of this, they had not become offices with regional jurisdiction but territorial governments that abolished the imperium Romanum and the res publica in their territory.
