The Pianist Lucilla Tolomei Podgornik

Abstract

The treatise presents the artist Lucilla Tolomei Podgornik from Vienna who was married to the newspaperman Fran Podgornik and her concert and teaching activities in Gorizia, Trieste and Vienna, where she died in 1937. As a concert pianist she performed also with the orchestra of the Philharmonic society in Ljubljana and trieste. after the family had relocated to vienna in 1904, she appeared as a soloist in chamber ensambles in vienna before world war I. One of her four children, i.e. her oldest daughter Friderika (1880–1948), made a name for herself as a successful pianist in Buenos Aires prior to world war I and died in Vienna. Lucilla Tolomei wrote about slovene music in slovene periodi- cals of the period (e.g. Dom in svet, Slovanski svet) that included interesting assessments of the then music scene in Slovenia.
