Slovene Reconciliation
Critique in the Context of Discussion between Communitarianism and Liberalism
Keywords:
reconciliation, transitional justice, communitarianism, liberalismAbstract
The article deals with reconciliation as one of the approaches to transitional justice and seeks to provide an answer to the question of whether the conceptions of reconciliation, as they appear in the Slovene reconciliatory discourse, can be regarded as publicly justified. Aimed at seeking possible underpinnings of this justification, a discussion related to the question of justice, social unity, and political legitimacy between two branches of contemporary political phi- losophy, communitarianism and liberalism, is presented. Based on the discussion, the author evaluates reconciliation’s suitability as a specific approach to redressing grievances stemming form World War II for a democratic and pluralist political society.
