The paper, which was published weekly in 1867 before being transformed into the biweekly Görzer Zeitung starting in 1868, was the first German newspaper in Gorizia. The first part of the article analyses the beginnings of German journalism in the Princely County of Gorizia and Gradisca and the characteristics of the local German community. After that, the beginnings of its publication, its characteristics in terms of content and its agenda are examined. The last part of the article discusses the reception of the new German newspaper by the Slovene community, especially the heated controversy that emerged between two Slovene newspapers, Domovina from Gorizia and Slovenec from Kla- genfurt. Görzer Wochenblatt became actively involved in the dispute, with the editorial board expressing its view on inter-ethnic relations in the County of Gorizia.
