Abstract

The article deals with the new monograph on Auersperg Castle and the Auerspergs edited by Miha Preinfalk et al. and published in 2020. The author highlights specific topics from the Auerspergs’ early history, particularly the question of the status of their seigneury (allod or fief), complementing or interpreting them in a different light than seen in the monograph. In doing so, he draws attention to the importance of the ecclesiastical organization in this territory and its dependence on the patriarch of Aquileia. Before that, the author discusses the estate granted by King Henry IV in the years 1058 and 1062 to Auersperg’s neighbour Anzo, who was a Salzburg vassal.
