The article deals with men from the Slovene ethnic territory, mostly nobles, who were enrolled in two German student nations in Padua between around 1550 and 1600, as well as in the German student nation in Bologna, thus joining law students in Padua and/or Bologna (the so-called Jurists) or students of the Artistic, Medical, and Theological Faculty (the so-called Artists). Along with their identity and academic ties, the article explores, fi rst and foremost, their familial ties and friendships. These were often based on their common (Augsburgian) Confession, the proximity of their respective estates, residence or career-related motives.
