The history of the Augustinian convent of St. Jerome in Rijeka, the fi rst religious community in the city, is mostly unknown. From two sources – Protocollum conventus Fluminensis Ordinis er-emitarum s. patri Augustini ad s. Hieronymum and Diplomatarium monasterii sancti Hieronimi ordinis eremitarum sancti Augustini in terra Fluminis sancti Viti – the author discovers a previous existence of the unknown Chapel of St. Jerome. The foundation of the pious legacy for the celebration of yearly Masses with its transfer from the Chapel to the Augustinian Church of St. Jerome confirms that Rijeka’s inhabitants held the Saint from Stridon in veneration.
