The Skin Trade in Marches in the 15th and in the First Half of the 16th Century

Abstract

In Italy and the West in general there vvas a grovving demand for skins as a very important ravv material in the period discussed. Ancona, as vvell as other tovvns in Marches (Pesaro, Fano), used to be an important centre of the skin trade in that time. The contents of this treatise is devoted to trade vvith skins coming to this region from Alpine (Slovene) countries, the Danube region (Hungarian and Croatian regions), from the Balkans and countries situated to the North of the Black Sea mainly through the merchants of Dubrovnik and Slovenia.
