The Attempts to Restore Slovene Schooling in Carinthia in the 1920's

Abstract

The request of the Slovene School Society for the restoration of Slovene private schools in Carinthia in the 1920's was doomed to failure, because the Carinthian authorities were not prepared to give the Slovenes any concessions in this field. The apparent endeavour of Carinthian authorities with regard to this matter was only intended to »lull to sleep« the Slovene School Society. The complaint to the League of Nations also failed, because the social and the political position of the Slovene minority in Carinthia did not enable it to take more decisive steps which would speed up, or rather enable, the strenghtening of demands of the Slovenes.
