Some Characteristics of the National Liberation Struggle in Gorenjsko (Upper Carniola)

Abstract

Three characteristic features of the National Liberation War in the Gorenjska Region (Carniola) are dealt with in this article. The author considers as its first characteristic its power and scope in the first period of struggle until January 1942. Its three peaks vvere: the armed rebellion in summer of 1941, the general uprising in the middle of December 1941, and the battle at Dražgoše in January 1942. The second characteristic is the fact that the National Liberation struggle caused the failure of one plan after another prepared by the German occupational forces, and that the Germans were mainly confronted with failures in their occupational policy. The third characteristic is the severe German oppression, which ravaged most extremely in summer 1942.
