Abstract

The treatise deals with the development of Slovene politics in Trieste in the last decade of the 19th century. It presents the parliamentary activity of the Slovene representative in Vienna, the local authorities' chicaning of the Trieste Slovenes, the demand of the Slovenes for their own school in Trieste, the fights during censuses, the ignoring of Slovene representatives in the elected bodies, the relations of the bourgeois politicians to the working class and its organizations, the support by Edinost for Kristani national politics, and the nationalists' indifference towards the class problem.
