Carantania in the Eyes of Historians in the Period Between the 15th and the 18th Century

Abstract

The author of this research paper endeavours to establish the degree of knowledge about the existence of Carantania of historians working in the periods before Linhart; and secondly, if they had this knowledge, vvhat kind of importance was ascribed to it. The authors are arranged according to their comprehension of nationality and the scope of Carantania and also according to their direct or indirect use of the main source for the history of Carantania and Carantanians, the writing »Conversio Bagoariorum et Carantanorum«. Main attention is paid to Marko Hansiz, who could be considered in some respects as Linharts predecessor in establishment of a new concept of Slovene history on the Carantanian basis.
