The so-called "cultural autonomy" is considered as one of the central questions concerning the protection of the minority in Carinthia (in Austria) during the period of the first republic, and especially in the 1920's. The author sums up the views of the Union of National Minorities in Germany (Verband der nationalen Minderheiten Deutschlands — Kulturwehr) toward this question. As a comparative material the attempts to solve minority questions in Germany (Prussia) of the time are given. The author finally summarizes the views of Ivan Stare, on of the (two) Slovene members in the Carinthian Provincial diet, to the settlement of the Slovene minority question by help of cultural autonomy.
