Abstract

The author attemts to present the Turkish danger in the period between 1570—1575. Owing to the Venetian-Turkish war, which ended in March 1575, the danger of Turkish invasions on the Croatian and Slavonian territory was minimal. At this time extensive preparation was made for the Croatian-Slovene peasant uprising. The fact that the outbreak of the uprising starts in January 1575 is the consequence — besides many other causes — also of knowledge about the conditions along the border, which the leaders of rebels must have had. New invasions into the Croatian territory, which were more severe from year to year, are observed only in 1573, 1574 and in 1575. Several invasions which took place after 1575, and which have not been mentioned so far, are also proved by the present article. There were no invasions into Carniola in this period, with the exception of one in 1570, vvhich is also mentioned by Valvasor.
