The Political History of the Carinthian Slovenes in 1905-1914

In the discussed period the German-National, the Slovene and the Socio-Democratic Party made efforts to gain the political influence in South Carinthia. The Slovene Party tried to strengthen and spread its influence in Carinthia by establishing christian-social workers' association, and by other organizational measures. The Slovene and the Socio-Democratic Party negotiated on the oceasion of the elections. The attempt of organizing the Slovene Liberal Party failed. The new division of the constituences brought forth tensions between the political leaderships in Celovec/Klagenfurt and Ljubljana. The population census in 1910, which proceeded in a strained athmosphere and under pressure, proved 82.212 Carinthian Slovenes, whereas the Slovene private census showed 135.415 Slovenes in Carinthia.
