Regnum Carantanum

Abstract

After the introductory survey of the literature and discussion, which didn't lead to the unit result, the author, analysing the expressions Carantania — Carantani and regnum — richi, states that the expression regnum Carantanum, which has been mentioned in five documents (888, 891/93 , 898, 953, 980), has a similar meaning as regio Carantana, partes Karantanie, provincia Karentana. He rejects equalisation of the expressions regnum Arnulfi and regnum Carantanum, because regnum Arnulfi in a way comprises also Bavaria and not only Carantania.
