Fortification of Slovenian Towns for Defence Against Turkish Raids

The author deals vvith fortification of Slovenian towns in relation with individual phases of turkish raids into Slovenian lands. He deals with the period from the middle of the 15th century when due to turkish raids the first phase of reconstruction and renovation of the medieval town walls begins. He deals most with the 16th century when after the Mohač battle in 1526 the building of defence projeets reaches its peak. He also mentiones the 17th century, when due to pressure of Turks just before the Vienna War (1683—1699) new plans and projects on town fortification are being made (Pieroni, Stier), of which only few are put to realisation. The author lays stress on the oldest ground plan of Ljubljana made by an Italian architect Nicolo Angielini after 1560. The copies are kept in the archives in Karlsruhe, Vienna and Dresden.
