Abstract

In the Novo mesto constituency 97 instead of 147 electorates were elected. The majority came to the polis, only nine of them voted. Practically all peasants refused to vote. Such a course of events was an expression of radical peasant demands for abolition of the feudal system. Expectation of a solution from Vienna and not from Frankfurt accorded with the Slovene anti-Frankfurt agitation. The elected delegate was thus representing only a small liberal group. The national-democratic group ultimately, encouraged as well with the elections results, formed after the elections around the magazine Sloveniens Blatt, of which the first volume was issued immediately after the elections in Novo mesto.
