Contributions to the History of Smihel near Pliberk

Abstract

The article, vvhich is mainly written on the basis of sources of the Arch-bishop's Archives in Ljubljana, presents economic, social, cultural and national situation of inhabitants at Šmihel near Pliberk in Carinthia between the 16th and the 18th century. The statistics of inhabitants is also presented. Peasants, bondsmen, in flat areas, did not vvork only in agriculture and cattle breeding, but also in weaving and brevving of beer. In social aspect the fate of peasant servants vvas especially deplorable, because they were compelled to beg when they vvere old and could not work any longer.
