Ljubljana - the Formation of a Town Settlement

Abstract

The contribution brings a new thesis on the formation of the medieval settlement, »the town of three towns«. The core and beginning of the settlement is the Town (Civitas), before it the suburbs Square (Forum) and New Square (forum novum) were formed in succession, on account of which the Forum was then named Old Square (first in 1324 in the document »in den alten mareht«). The process was relatively short and concluded soon after the middle of the 13th century.
