Abstract

The author has attempted to gather data on the usage of language and nationalities for a border Kočevje area from the preserved sources of the Italian (occupational) census of the so-called »Province of Ljubljana«. That is a part of Slovenia, vvhich vvas unitil then inhabited by the German speaking »island«, i. e. the population vvhich emigrated to the territory of the German Reich during the follovving months. The analysis has endeavoured to ansvver primarily the follovving tvvo questions: what vvas the ethnical (national) character of inhabitants of a part of the Kočevje area, and vvhat vvas the professional structure of these inhabitants. It has been established that the majority of mixed families adhered to the German speaking »island«, vvhereas the opposite cases are rare. The immobility of the inhabitants of the Kočevje area could also be established.
