Ojibway and Ottawa Indians
Keywords:
Slovene missionaries, missions, Indians of North AmericaAbstract
During the 19th century a number of Slovenes worked as Catholic missionaries among Ojibway and Ottavva Indians in Michigan and upper Minnesota. Still, Slovene literature on these two tribes is unsatisfactory and frequently incorrect. The present study gives a history of these two tribes, their first known extension in the 17th century and after the World War Two. It enumerates the names of the main authors on these two tribes, on their languages, of the most important research centres, and of the main scholarly collections with the Ojibway and Ottavva material.
