Contribution to the History of the Turkish Irruptions from 1576 till the Beginning of Building of Karlovac in 1579
Abstract
The author deals in detail with the frequent Turkish irruptions into the Croatian march-land. We may make the conclusion that the Turks systematically destroyed the march-land in that time. They succceded in moving the borders even more tovvards the vvest — from the river Una on the river Glina. In Carniola namely the socalled »martolozi« robbed a few times along the frontier vvith the march-land, whereas the Turks made no irruptions in Carniola in that period inspite of the much stronger army. The author also mentions smaller corrections in connection with the up till now known numerical strength of the army in the Croatian and Slavonic march-land, as vvell as probably the first exactly dated quotation of the town Karlovac (August 23, 1579). The contribution is written on the basis of known sources and literature, as well as on the new sources of the Archives of Slovenia.
